My Story
I'm a textile artist and tutor based in Shrewsbury, the county town of Shropshire, England.
I take inspiration from the dramatic landscape, coastline, hillsides, hedgerows and gardens of Britain to create unique pieces of art in felting and embroidery.
I haven’t taken a conventional route into being an artist. I am a lifelong stitcher and started sewing as a four year old with my mother. Although I took an A Level in Textile Art, I later studied a Law degree and an MA in Politics at the University of Sheffield before establishing a career in charity management.
I recaptured my passion for textile art after my son, Benjamin, was born. I wanted to spend more of my time with my boy in his early years so created my brand, Tilly Tea Dance, through which I can sell my work and teach others how to create works of art in felt and embroidery.
Each piece of my original textile art is individually designed and made using a variety of fabrics and fibres, buttons and beads. I also produce printed cards of my finished pieces. Visit the gallery on my home page to see a large selection of work.
I sell my work through local outlets in Shropshire and online. I also produce work by special commission when time allows.
I am an experienced tutor, mainly specialising in needle felting and embroidery. I run courses in Shrewsbury and across Shropshire and also offer my services as a guest tutor. Visit my workshops page for more information.
